CHAN 2016: Super Eagles, others aim high as tournament gets underway
Nigeria B will confront Niger Republic in their opening game on January 18 at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo on the outskirts of Kigali.
Thursday, 14 January is exactly a month when the Nigerian team opened their camping for the tournament, the first which started in Abuja before moving down to Pretoria on 2 January in a bid to experience the same high altitude the same as the one in Kigali.
Hostilities in Group C will not be a tea party as debutants Guinea who qualified after three failed attempts will not want the opportunity to elude them.
The 4 African Nations Championship kicks off on Saturday with host Rwanda taking on Cote d’Ivoire and Gabon locking horns against Morocco at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium – also the venue for the final match on February 7.
“I am wishing the team a victorious outing at CHAN”.
He has declared his team battle-ready for the competition.
A statement made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday read, “The Nigeria Football Federation has condemned, in strong terms, a report which detailed imagined “poor conditions” in the camp of the Super Eagles B in Pretoria, South Africa”.
The team arrived with coach Sunday Oliseh who is managing the national team in his first tournament.
“I believe that we will all smile at the end of this championship”.
“Similarly, sponsor of the national teams, Globacom has urged the Home-based Eagles to make Nigeria proud in Rwanda”.
He implored them to work hard and surpass the country’s last CHAN record.
“I will be in Rwanda in solidarity with them and to encourage them”.
They are expected to leave 8am local time, for the three-hour flight to Kigali.
