Coroner: Rene Angelil, husband of Celine Dion, dies
Celine Dion’s Las Vegas residency has been postponed, with her shows this weekend cancelled in the wake of the death of husband Rene Angelil.
The 73-year-old Angelil died in the suburban Las Vegas home in Henderson he shared with Dion and their three children.
Rene had six children; three from a previous relationship, and three with Celine – a 14-year-old son, also called Rene, and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
For nearly two decades, Celine’s Dion’s husband, Rene Angelil fought cancer.
At age 12, Dion had recorded a demo tape with her mother and sent it to Angelil.
When Celine turns 19, she and Rene, 45, become romantically involved, and will continue dating for four years. I think I’ve got this.
The late Rene Angelil is being remembered as a “great Quebecer” who “influenced the world”.
“I’m not surprised that we married each other, because we have the same dreams”, she continues.
Angelil had been battling a recurrence of throat cancer since initially undergoing surgery for the condition in April 1999. In 1961, as Angelil, Beaulne and Labelle were approaching their 20s, they quit school to go into full-time performing. She is next expected to take to the stage on February 23rd.
“I need to consider that I am the best for him and at caring for him”.
He took her on and launched her first English-language album in 1990.
“We were making a record, and Celine kept telling me: ‘Should this one be the one that I’ll announce my love for him?”‘ he recalled. “I felt strong because he needed me”, Celine said at the time. They named him after his father, Rene-Charles.
Last year Dion told USA Today that she was preparing for her husband’s death.
