Giants tab Ben McAdoo as franchise’s 17th head coach; staff taking shape
Ben McAdoo will sit in an office that has only ever been occupied by Tom Coughlin.
The team made the announcement Thursday and will introduce McAdoo at a news conference Friday morning, according to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.
Pederson is a former Eagles quarterback and now on the staff of former Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid.
Offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo has been promoted to take over the team that has missed the playoffs the past four seasons, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Many speculated that Coughlin withdrew because he didn’t want to deal with Eagles front office troll Howie Roseman. He completed the 1930 season and remained the Giants’ head coach until 1953. But when it comes to counting their head coaches, the Giants skip right past Friedman because he was never the head coach, only a co-head coach.

The San Francisco 49ers have also shown a lot of interest in Coughlin, but there’s talk that he wouldn’t be insane about moving all the way across the country and away from his family.
“Ben is an outstanding young coach who has great experience and has done a good job as our offensive coordinator these past two years”, Mara said. He thought his first interview with the Eagles went well per sources.
The Eagles have been seeking a replacement for Chip Kelly, who was sacked five days before Philadelphia’s season-ending victory over Coughlin and the Giants.
After Lurie fired Kelly on December 29, he said one reason for the early dismissal was because he “wanted to get a jump start” on the coaching search. McAdoo was immediately considered a potential successor to Coughlin.
“I’m excited we hired Coach McAdoo as the head coach, ” Schwartz said. Kansas City plays at New England on Saturday.
With Adam Gase committed to coach the Dolphins, it leaves three other interviewees to take the job (assuming no more interviews occurs-and the Eagles have none on the books).
Now he is being asked to revive a team that won two Super Bowls under Coughlin before falling on hard times. Under McAdoos leadership, Manning threw 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions the past two seasons.
It is not clear whether defensive co-ordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who also interviewed for the head coaching job, will return.
