Celine Dion’s Husband And Manager Dies
Rene Angelil, Celine Dion’s husband and manager, has died at his suburban Las Vegas home, authorities said Thursday. It is impossible to overstate the impact Rene and Celine have had on the history of entertainment in Las Vegas and at Caesars Palace, with his audacious vision regarding her residency now 13 years and counting.
Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil, who discovered the Canadian pop diva and managed her career, died Thursday, aged 73, after a struggle with cancer. “The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment”.
The couple moved forward with their relationship, and in 1994 they were married in a lavish ceremony at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica.
Angelil is survived by 14-year-old son Rene-Charles, 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy as well as a son and a daughter from his previous two marriages.
Following Angelil’s 1999 throat cancer diagnosis, Dion chose to take a break from the limelight to care for him. She said Angelil has a feeding tube and that she was helping him to eat three times a day. And unfortunately I had to say, listen, I can’t be half here and half there.
The singer was Celine Dion, and in time her voice would become one of the most popular in the world, recalling big-voiced singers such as Barbra Streisand and Whitney Houston.
Angelil suffered a string of medical setbacks over the past two decades – he had a heart attack in 1992 and underwent cancer surgery in 1998.
June 2014: Rene steps down as Celine’s manager. She even cancelled future performances in Las Vegas and her upcoming Asian tour that was scheduled to begin in the fall. To help her launch her career, he mortgaged his house and told everyone around him that he is going to make the singer a worldwide star. Or you look at your husband that’s sick and you say, ‘I got you. “René wants to know”, Dion said.
