David Bowie: Carnegie Hall to Have Tribute Concert
Bandmember Ronnie Wood shared several snaps of Bowie on Twitter and added, “Thinking of you David, God bless…”
Fans were asked to bring their Bowie tracks to be played throughout the evening as fans said goodbye to their hero.
David Bowie fans in the United Kingdom will be disappointed to learn that the funeral of the legend who was born in Brixton, South London, will be held in the U.S. where he lived with his family. Coming just two days after his birthday, and the release of what would be his final album, Blackstar, the news of his passing seemed especially shocking. David Bowie was the subject of a host of tributes on Monday, January 11’s late night television shows, with hosts such as Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien sharing memories and insights into the music idol’s character.
“Over the years, we have performed David Bowie’s music both at live shows and just futzing around in the rehearsal space”, Toadies guitarist Clark Vogeler says in one of the band’s reminiscences on the website.
“The cast didn’t know all that time, and I suspect that the musicians with whom he recorded ‘Blackstar” didn’t know either.
An official statement issued on Bowie’s social media accounts yesterday evening said: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer”.
MICK Jagger has paid tribute to “true original” David Bowie.
“At that late stage, he was planning the follow-up to “Blackstar”, and I was thrilled”, Visconti told Rolling Stone.
“I never felt like I fit in growing up in MI”, she wrote.
“We will take to the grave the moments we shared – talking, playing music and collaborating – as some of the most profound and memorable moments of our lives”.
