Actors Of Color Who Should’ve Been Nominated For An Oscar This Year
The 25-year-old actress was first nominated in 2011 for best actress for “Winter’s Bone”.
But absences were also stuck on repeat.
Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs has since redoubled efforts to diversify the academy’s membership, and slated Chris Rock – who a year ago famously labeled Hollywood a “white industry” – to host this year’s February 28 ceremony. “Champagne and mezcal will run tonight!”
Fox’s The Revenant, The Martian, and Brooklyn all received best picture nods, with The Revenant picking up an Oscar-leading 12 total nominations.
Eight out of a possible 10 films were nominated for best picture.
“We are humbled by this honor and are excited to be able to continue the discussion of not only (rap group) NWA’s legacy but also the larger conversation of civil rights in America”.
DiCaprio has previously called it “the most hard film” he has ever done due to the freezing temperatures and having only one and a half hours a day of natural light to get their shots, but the cast said they were lucky to have his dulcet tones to keep morale up. But many expected “Straight Outta Compton” to be nominated for best picture, and numerous handicappers had Idris Elba for “Beasts of No Nation” and Benicio Del Toro for “Sicario” as likely for best supporting actor. He explained: “It is nice to be recognised, but N.W.A. was anti-establishment, so we’re used to people trying to dismiss what we gotta say”.

“I wanted 13 (nominations) but ok, that’s fine, it’s enough”, Iñarritu joked on the red carpet. “I realised how special that is and I didn’t expect that to happen to me”, he said.
Alongside DiCaprio and Damon, the best actor nominees were: Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”), Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”) and Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”). Two big names were left out: Johnny Depp for “Black Mass” and Will Smith for “Concussion”. This year’s Best Supporting Actor line-up is formidable – particularly Mark Rylance and the surprise inclusion of Tom Hardy in The Revenant – but Stallone is the feel-good story of the awards race.
One of the best reviewed films of 2015 was the Rocky spin-off Creed starring Michael B. Jordan and directed by Ryan Coogler. Then, they get to the good stuff: Who will dominate the night’s five biggest categories?
“It was thrilling”, said McKay, who made a pre-dawn party to watch the nominations.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens did not land any major nominations – unlike the 1977 original, which received 10, including Best Picture – and had to settle for Visual Effects, Editing, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and a nice nod to John Williams for Best Original Score.
“Room”: Opens Friday in Fresno.
“The Revenant” took home the best drama film prize at last Sunday’s Golden Globes, while Inarritu was named best director and Leonardo DiCaprio won for best actor in a drama.
“We all dream in gold” is the theme of the 88th Academy Awards and for eight best picture nominees, the fantasy moved one step closer to reality this morning.
