Middle-aged man dresses as old woman for official’s photo op
The stunt involves a woman who stood next to the Director of Senior Services at a press conference at the Cranston Senior Center. The individual was wearing a dress, earrings, lipstick and a wig, and, identified as a “Cranston Senior Home Resident”, WJAR-TV reported.
As if to alleviate any doubts about his identity, the bus driver also had on a name tag reading, “Cranston Senior Home Resident”.
The press event was to promote the Snow Angels program, which encourages volunteers to assist the elderly community during winter by shovelling snow or removing slippy ice from their driveways.
Boston televsion station WCVB said after news of the stunt came to light, Ms Stenhouse “promptly resigned”.
It is unclear why officials chose to use a stand-in for a woman during the January 5 news conference, which was held at the senior center where the man worked as a van driver.
“I’ve been in a meeting all night being a great public servant for the city of Warwick”, Stenhouse told reporter Brian Crandall who later showed up at her house. She started with the City of Cranston as the Executive Director of Senior Enrichment, managing the city’s senior center, in 2013.
An aide for Mayor Allan Fung, the 2014 Republican nominee for governor, declined to explain, saying it was a personnel matter.
Fung’s office told the Journal that it could not comment or provide the reason for Stenhouse’s resignation. Roberts did not immediately return a message left at his work. “He wanted it for that.’ I probably would have given him a better wig if I had known”.
