Colin Trevorrow teases ‘profoundly satisfying’ Star Wars reveal for Rey’s ancestry
Responding to the popular theories floating around, Colin Trevorrow, who is slated to helm the ninth movie of the blockbuster franchise, has revealed that Rey is the most important character of the latest trilogy and her backstory is not only important for the Force Awakens but to the entire universe of Star Wars.
The identity of Rey remains a secret, at least for now before “Star Wars Episode 8” comes out. He’ll be up against the likes of Ennio Morricone and Thomas Newman in the category of Best Music – Original Score, honoured for his work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
It’s a vision that paid off dividends, too; even if The Force Awakens hues closely to A New Hope, there’s a presence and, ultimately, a sense of dramatic heft to the film that was completely lost in the CG-laden fluff that Lucasfilm calls the prequels. “From my point of view, [that] worked absolutely brilliantly because you had all the main actors running up and then Maz does her bit and then the whole ceiling collapses in front of them, but that never made it. That was a shot I was quite proud of, actually, it worked really, really well”. This already hints something of a secret or mystery about the character, and have since fueled fan speculation.
In the end, the five nominations received by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” were overshadowed by the haul of films such as “Spotlight”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, and “The Martian”.
“I’ve seen all of the theories and, you know, I have to practice how to answer these questions”, he began.
“We’re going to make sure that that answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying”.
Just how big this would be will come out in the coming two films. Here’s a peek at the upcoming slate of projects set in George Lucas’ beloved sci-fi universe: Star Wars: Rogue One (December 16, 2016), Star Wars: Episode VIII (May 26, 2017), Untitled Han Solo Anthology Film (2018), Star Wars: Episode IX (2019).
