What does Obama carry in his pocket? Find out on YouTube
Obama said it’s “pretty sensible” for women in the 40 states where the items are taxed as luxury items to work on getting that changed.
This was just one of the revelations from the president’s annual YouTube interview.
Obama appears to be holding out hope that Trump’s presidential aspirations flame out.
“Women should not be at a disadvantage in the health care system”, he said. He wants to make sure “that women can’t be charged more than men for insurance coverage, that pregnancy isn’t treated as an illness, that contraception is part of a standard package of care that you receive”.
“It’s less entertainment, it’s more serious business”.
“I have to tell you, I have no idea why states would tax these as luxury items”, Obama said. He has not seen “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Obama said his favorite movie from the Star Wars saga was “the first one”, later clarifying he meant Episode IV.
He did seem familiar enough with the characters. “He’s a little bit of a rebel”.
The commander in chief, perhaps reassuringly, also appeared in the dark about the raging online debate over dog trousers. Luckily, how dogs would wear trousers isn’t one of them. “Too much. Too much fabric”, Obama said.
Next, Thorne, who describes himself as a “vlogger/time traveler/professional cuddler/professional gamer” and whose YouTube channel has more than 3.7 million subscribers, asked Obama who was the better rapper – Drake or Kendrick Lamar?
Nilsen began, “Now something that’s really important to me and my audience is women’s health and recently I was shocked to learn that pads, tampons, and other menstrual products are taxes as luxury goods in over forty states and I don’t know anyone who has a period that thinks it’s a luxury”.
Nilsen pointed out that 40 states require people to pay sales tax on feminine hygiene products, even though states often allow exemptions for “necessities”. “I suspect it’s because men were making the laws when those taxes were passed”, he said.
Obama is a known science fan, and let his geek flag fly during a talk with YouTube presenter Destin Sandlin.
