Trump shifts birther gaze to Cruz
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz doesn’t agree with Donal Trump’s idea for a “deportation force” in dealing with undocumented immigrants living in the us, saying that it has never been the way the country has enforced laws “for any crime”.
“Three weeks ago, nearly every Republican candidate was attacking Donald Trump”, Cruz said during CNN’s “State of the Union”.
Asked on “Fox News Sunday” whether he really doubted Cruz was a natural born citizen, Trump said, “I don’t know”.
As for the “natural born” clause of the Constitution being clear-cut, several constitutional law scholars, including Harvard University’s Laurence Tribe who taught both Cruz and President Barack Obama, said it was not. These days, and now that Cruz is ahead of Trump in the polls in Iowa, Trump has been slamming the Texas senator, claiming that Cruz’s immigration proposals mirror his and questioning the part-Cuban candidate’s Christianity.
As for what Ted Cruz has to say about this, he preferred a more diplomatic approach, refusing to engage with Donald Trumps and his attacks.
While Trump’s style marks a break from tradition, his campaign says he’s able to reach far more potential voters than candidates at smaller events can do.
JAKE TAPPER: I don’t mean to sound disrespectful, but it is a simple question, yes or no. Will you have people going door to door rounding people up?
Cruz was born in Canada, but his mother was born in Delaware.
You’d think McCain might be sympathetic to Cruz’s situation, but did I mention that what goes around comes around? You can’t have a nominee who’s going to be subject to be thrown out as the nominee. The Texas senator was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on December 22, 1970, but according to US law, he is a USA citizen also. Cruz has only noted that Trump “jumped the shark” on what he calls a non-issue.
And in an interview with MA radio station WRKO, Cruz made his most personal charge yet, saying Trump “embodies NY values”, and portraying Trump as out of step with an increasingly southern, religious GOP.
Trump’s solution: “I would say that I would want the Supreme Court to rule because they haven’t ruled”.
The focus group expressed admiration for Cruz’s handling of the situation, one member specifically calling his “Jump the Shark” tweet response to Trump “awesome”. Also, McConnell mentioned that the Senator Canadian’s birth and the fact that his father was born in Cuba aren’t actual issues that should make him ineligible.
Trump said that Cruz ought to confirm his eligibility in order to avoid confrontation from Democrats. “Trump is so passionate and you can see how much he cares about America. I don’t know. Nobody knows”.
“If there is any question, it should be addressed before the nomination”, said Windmuller, who is likely to vote for either Trump or Cruz.
