‘The Revenant’, ‘The Martian’ named top films at Golden Globes
In a discussion following his win for best actor at the Golden Globes last night, DiCaprio talked about making the scene, which he believes will go down in the history of cinema.

Awards season kicks into high gear on Sunday with the Golden Globes, as Hollywood’s biggest stars turn out for a champagne-filled event honoring the best in film and television. Voting for Oscar nominations closed on Friday, but the campaigning won’t end until the actual ceremony on February 28. That was the most-watched Golden Globes in a decade. We may never know, though of course, DiCaprio didn’t have anything to worry about: He won the trophy for his role in “The Revenant”, as expected.
Of the 11 TV categories recognized by the Golden Globes, only one went to one of those traditional outlets (for “Empire” star Taraji P. Henson, who was named best actress in a TV drama). The award went to The Hateful Eight. Jennifer Lawrence, victor for best actress-comedy for her film Joy, was also snapped talking with ex-boyfriend Nicholas Hoult.
Experts point out that neither of last year’s Globes best picture winners – “Boyhood” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” – ended up with an Oscar.
Host Phillip Schofield asked the 41-year-old if his reaction would be “quite so surprised” if Lady Gaga was to brush past him at the Oscars again.
Also nominated for best actor in a drama are Bryan Cranston as a blacklisted 1940s screenwriter in “Trumbo”, Michael Fassbender for his work in “Steve Jobs”, Eddie Redmayne for the transgender tale “The Danish Girl”, and Will Smith for the hard-hitting sports drama “Concussion”.
Sylvester Stallone. The supporting actor category will be one of the most competitive at the Oscars, boosted by Stallone’s excellent reprisal of his iconic Rocky Balboa character in Creed.

-Foreign Language: “Son of Saul”. Instead, the Globes had a particularly unraveled atmosphere that included Jonah Hill dressed as the bear from “The Revenant”, copious discussion of “Transparent” star Jeffrey Tambor’s male anatomy by Gervais, and much buzzing about Sean Penn’s escapade with Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
Jon Hamm won his second Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of womanising advertising executive Don Draper in Mad Men, whose finale aired a year ago.
“I like seeing Ricky once every three years”.
The Gervais-led Globes evidenced little of the seriousness that marks most award shows, or the teary-eyed acceptance speeches.
