David Bowie to be honoured at Brit Awards 2016
One of David Bowie’s closest friends has revealed the star died of liver cancer, and that only a few people knew the star was terminally ill.
Celebrity Big Brother aired footage of Angie Bowie reacting to news of David Bowie’s death last night.
Some social media users thought the show had recorded the moment Angie Bowie had learned of her ex husband’s fate.
Born and raised in south London, Bowie was a long-time resident of NY and some British media reported that he had died there.
A clip of organist Christopher Nickol’s heartfelt performance of Bowie’s 1971 hit “Life on Mars” at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Museum during Monday’s regular lunchtime organ recital has gone viral. However, Belgian theatre director Ivo van Hove told a Dutch news outlet that it was liver cancer.
“I’ve known for more than a year”.
“He was on our show several times over the years and the man was always outstanding”, he said on “Conan”.
“I’m very, very saddened to hear of his death”, he said. “Love to all”, he wrote.
Coming mere days after his 69th birthday and the release of his new Blackstar album, the announcement of his passing on January 10 caught the world by surprise, but to those in Bowie’s inner circle, news of his condition was nothing new.
“I was trying to think of something amusing to say, but it just wouldn’t come out right, so I’m just going to email you, David Bowie, and if you check your e-mail in space or heaven or wherever you are, you don’t have to e-mail me back”, he added. But as we went off the stage, he collapsed.
He said the star told him, “We have to work together very intensely for the next year and I want you to know, if I can not be there, why that is”.
Tony Visconti, the producer who worked with Bowie to complete his final album, has released a statement saying it was deliberately created and timed as a “parting gift” for his fans.
