AP Conversation: Jeb Bush on foreign policy and family
David Wilkins, a former USA ambassador to Canada and South Carolina GOP lawmaker who is backing Bush, said ahead of the announcement on Thursday that Graham “has got a sound organization”.
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush on Friday claimed the endorsement of former rival Lindsey Graham, the hawkish SC senator. The senator’s support could make a difference for Bush in the important early-voting state of SC, potentially giving the candidate “a shot of momentum”, according to Politico. Probably, but Jeb Bush hasn’t received much in the way of good news lately, and an endorsement from Lindsey Graham offers a rare opportunity for cheer.
Graham dropped out of the presidential last month after failing to gain traction throughout the campaign.
The article noted, “Throughout the campaign, Mr. Bush had made a point of texting Senator Lindsey Graham of SC weekly, just to check in”.
“This is about leadership more than the specific issue”, Bush said. Graham quit at O”, Trump tweeted, following shortly with, “Sen. He’s doing slightly better in Graham’s home state of SC, where polling averages put him at 7.4 percent in the Republican race.
“I wasn’t ready to be president at 44”, said the 60-year-old Graham.
“Last night (at the debate, ) he said I will have their backs”.
At his news conference, Graham praised Rubio and predicted he would be president one day – but right now he is too young.
The endorsement could give Bush a boost in SC, which is scheduled to hold the first-in-the-South primary on February 20th.
Still, Graham can be a polarizing figure in SC politics.
Bush hailed Graham as “the most knowledgeable person on the Hill as it related to national security, military affairs and foreign policy”.
