Winners of $1.6bn lottery revealed
NBC says they’ll receive roughly $327.8 million after taxes if they take the lump-sum payment.
Friday morning John and Lisa Robinson went on national TV to show off their winning Powerball ticket.
They also recounted Wednesday night when the numbers were drawn. They also say they will go to work on Monday.
Crowds descended on the California store after word emerged it had sold a winning ticket, with excited customers snapping pictures and congratulating the sales associate. Those winners have not been announced yet.
John Robinson said he purchased the winning ticket in Munford Wednesday night at Naifeh’s Food Market, The Today Show reported. They did not stop to talk to reporters and were led to a back room to have their ticket looked at.
John Robinson works in information technology and his wife is employed at a dermatologist’s office in Memphis, which is about 25 miles south of Munford.
The identity of the California victor has not been made public. “And even though they want to be private after this is over, they want to let the public know that they’re the winners”.
The Today Show airs at 7 a.m. on NBC4.
The big Powerball lottery draw had attracted plenty of ticket buyers across the country as many waited in line for a chance to dream of what they’d buy.
If she splurges on anything, it will be her family, Lisa said. The couple is in their middle 50s, neighbors said.
“It’s still unbelievable. It is still unbelievable to me”, said Linda Bullfin. Their son, Adam, is an electrician, and their daughter, Tiffany, is a recent college graduate.
One reason to be suspicious of the family’s claim: The Robinsons said that they were headed directly to the lottery commission after appearing on the Today Show.
The Associated Press could not immediately verify the Robinsons’ claim.
The jackpot was $1.58 billion, and each victor will be entitled to a $528,800,000 share if they choose the annuitized version.
The woman’s daughter told the Los Angeles Times that the family “had not won the prize,” and reports suggesting otherwise had been a “misunderstanding based on a photo that was sent to her mother”.
Lucky spot… John and Lisa Robinson from Tennessee bought a winning Powerball ticket here.
The winners of the record $1.6 billion U.S. Powerball jackpot had yet to emerge early on Thursday, with lottery officials saying the massive prize will be split between ticket holders in three states – Tennessee, California and Florida. But Idaho had plenty of prize-winning tickets.
The winning ticket was confirmed by Tennessee lottery officials Friday afternoon. They all kicked in $5 and got 27 quick pick tickets.
“It’s not going very far”, John Robinson joked as he held up the ticket on air.
