MI attorney general to probe water crisis
Governor Snyder told journalists on Thursday that the string of cases occurred from June 2014 to November 2015, while Flint was using lead-poisoned water.

Flint was being run by a state-appointed emergency manager at the time. Water in Flint has been compromised after the city switched its water supply from the Detroit line to the Flint River in March 2014.
But in the meantime, they still needed water, and rather than continuing to buy the Detroit water-a pre-treated and sanitary supply from Lake Huron-they switched sources to the Flint River.
Flint native and filmmaker Michael Moore has scheduled a stop Saturday, Jan. 16 outside Flint City Hall to discuss the city’s continuing water crisis.
In concluding his remarks, the governor called on others to join him in a cooperative effort to find common solutions to restore the water supply to safe levels. Exposure to lead can cause behavior problems and learning disabilities in children as kidney ailments in adults. “The governor’s request is an important step toward making sure they get the help they need”.
Lead is highly toxic, especially to young children. The details are in the state’s application for a federal disaster declaration and financial help.
Also Friday, Snyder said he’s in favor of restoring the full powers of Flint’s mayor.
David Murray, press secretary for Snyder, said the state administration had been “working closely with the city to focus on health issues affecting children and other city residents, and address water infrastructure challenges”.
The announcement from Michigan’s attorney general comes just hours after Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder announced he’s asking President Barack Obama to issue an emergency and major disaster declaration.

“We are hopeful the culpable parties will receive justice”, said Gerald Kariem of the United Auto Workers, which was handing out bottled water and filters on Friday.
Michigan’s attorney general says he plans to investigate Flint’s water crisis. “EPA immediately conveyed those concerns to MDEQ – because MDEQ is the agency responsible for implementing and enforcing federal drinking water regulations in MI”, it said.
Also on Friday, a bipartisan group of leaders on the House energy and commerce committee sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency requesting a briefing “in the coming days” on the Flint crisis.
