DNCE Has Joined The Cast Of ‘Grease
Appearing in Pasadena to plug their live musical production of the beloved play and film, the cast, led by Aaron Tveit as Danny and Julianne Hough as Sandy, broke out into song – “We Go Together”, natch – and also brought new details on the ambitious production.
“We have a moment”, said director Thomas Kail, “where the generations are staring at each another”. Ugh, the cast just keeps getting better and better. The cast has been rehearsing for the live event on a soundstage on the Warner Brothers studio lot in Burbank.
Producer Marc Platt said the language will keep an “appropriate edge”, although a few of the sharper lines might be toned down a bit for a live prime-time telecast.
Some of Them Have Done This Before: While Broadway vet Tveit hasn’t actually been in a production of Grease, several of his castrates have. “What these two have done is take everything that you like, everything that you love, and flipped it on its head”, Keke Palmer, who plays Marty, said.
“After the dance [scene], basically I have to book it in like, a golf cart, and warm up my voice and then sing ‘Hopelessly Devoted, ‘” she revealed. In the new version, the role is assumed by singer Carly Rae Jepsen. “I was Sandy in my high school production of it. I could not walk in heels like you do!”
Will you tune in and watch Grease: Live? “They’re very excited about it and I know they’ll both be watching on the evening of”.
“Rizzo does still have a pregnancy scare”, Vanessa Hudgens, who plays the tough girl in the nostalgic musical set at a 1950s high school, said of her character in the new version, which is scheduled for Fox on January 31.
