A Competition Package gives the M3 more power and improved handling
For those wanting more horsepower and performance from their M3/M4, BMW’s new Competition Package will give it to them. Now BMW is fighting back.
You can find out more details about the new Competition Package for the M3 and M4 from BMW at the link below.
Priced at $5500 (it’s $500 less for the M4 convertible), it cranks up horsepower from 425 to 444.
A quick look at the acceleration times of the new 440i range shows the fastest model will be the 440i Coupe, which sprints from a standstill to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 5.0 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the outgoing 430i.
Other enhancements include new springs, dampers and anti-roll bars for BMW’s Adaptive M Suspension, as upgraded Active M Differential and a stability control system that’s been tweaked to allow for more fun before the safety net kicks in.
And it wouldn’t be much of a performance package if it didn’t bring aesthetic changes too. In the sedan it helps push an impressive 0-100km/h time of just 6.1 seconds, and 6.3 seconds in the Touring wagon. The driving modes have been reconfigured to exploit them better, with the M diff and DSC also configured differently. Exclusive forged, machine-polished, weight- and rigidity-optimised 20-inch M alloy wheels – front 9J × 20; rear 10 J × 20 – with exclusive multi-spoke 666 M styling and mixed tyres (front: 265/30 R20, rear: 285/30 R20) complete the list of chassis upgrades.
The Competition Package promises to improve that.
Finally, the visual upgrades on the exterior see the addition of BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line exterior trim.
Aesthetic extras include 20-inch borrowed from the M4 GTS but painted silver, high-gloss black kidney grille, side air vents, side window trim, exterior mirror bases and side window trim and a badge specific to the model. Cabin modifications have been kept equally restrained and will be highlighted by the lightweight M sports seats and bespoke seat belts with BMW M stripes.
