Antonio Brown’s Perceived Response To Adam Jones’ Apology Is Invaluable
The Steelers listed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as questionable on Friday’s injury report with a sprained AC joint and ligament damage in his right shoulder.
Coach Mike Tomlin says Roethlisberger did everything he was asked on Friday.
Wide receiver Antonio Brown has been ruled out after taking a devastating hit from Cincinnati’s Vontaze Burfict last week – fellow Bengal Adam (Pacman) Jones has apologized for saying he thought Brown was faking an injury.
Antonio Brown won’t play while two of the others that powered that attack may at least be limited, and the top-seeded Broncos’ secondary is far healthier as the Steelers visit Denver on Sunday in an AFC divisional-round game.
Brown, a four-time Pro Bowl selection who has been the NFL’s leading receiver this season, was declared inactive by Pittsburgh before their final practice session of the week. With 136 receptions and 1,834 yards, Brown had one of the greatest seasons for a wide receiver in National Football League history. A victory would make Gary Kubiak just the third Broncos coach to win his first playoff game with Denver, joining Red Miller (1977) and John Fox (2001). The fallout of the game has continued to come down, with a slew of fines to both teams and multiple parties doled out by the NFL.
More than $83,000 in fines were handed out after this game, a month after almost $140,000 in fines came out of the teams’ Week 14 meeting.
Burfict was suspended for the first three games of next season this week as a result of repeated violations of player safety rules, including the hit on Brown. “I apologize, sincerely man. Get well”.
“I will, if he don’t play”, Jones said in an interview with Brandon Marshall on “Inside the NFL” that aired Tuesday.
The Steelers found out they had suitable replacements for Williams against the Bengals.
“I think they do a little bit of extra stuff, but you just can’t let that get to you”, Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe said. Either way, we know he won’t be at 100%. In 2013, his coverage of the Seattle Seahawks ended in heartbreak when they defeated the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.
Roethlisberger will no doubt do whatever he needs to do to play, but his ability to throw the ball deeply and accurately will likely be compromised.
With Williams out for a second straight week in the postseason, the Steelers will be forced to rely upon backups Fitzgerald Toussaint and Jordan Todman, who combined for 183 yards from scrimmage (123 rushing, 60 receiving) against Cincinnati.
