Shah Faisal jumped off Tower Bridge — Carnage YouTube
This video from YouTuber Carnage, real name Shah Faisal Shinwari, is like a visual recreation of that philosophical quandary, and it doesn’t end particularly well for the young man.
“Jumping into the Thames from a bridge is extremely unsafe – the shock of cold water make it very hard to swim and strong currents can rapidly sweep people away”.
Posting a video of the stunt to YouTube, Shinwari admitted he regrets making the jump.
Faisal said: “It originally was a dare from one of my subscribers, and I attempted it as I like doing mad s***”.
The video, uploaded to YouTube on July 22, has received thousands of views, but the stuntman has since realized it was the “stupidest” idea he’s ever had. “Thanks for watching!”
Tony Wafer, RNLI Community Safety Manager, said: “As a lifesaving organisation that works on the Thames, we are extremely disappointed that this young man chose to risk his life in this way”.
“We would strongly discourage anyone from doing anything like this”.
The lifeboat search and rescue charity condemned his actions, and warned others against copying the “extremely dangerous” stunt.
Performing arts student Shah Faisal Shinwari, 17, vaulted into the Thames in front of stunned commuters while being filmed by a friend – but quickly got into trouble, inhaling mouthfuls of dirty water once he hit the surface and being swept downriver by the strong current.
Explaining his actions, Mr Shinwari said: “When I dropped into the water, I couldn’t breathe”. I was shouting to my mates: ‘Help!
Listing the things that went wrong, he wrote, “Swallowed lots of dirty water, internal drowning, low tide, couldn’t swim against current, failed the jump, and infection from water”.
“My belly hurt so much, “he told the Evening Standard.”I had so much water in my lungs, and I swallowed so much”.
When asked whether he thought uploading the video to his channel was irresponsible he said: ‘No, I am sure that it is not irresponsible and that people won’t try and copy it.
‘There were about six ways I could have died.
‘Little did I know it would get this out of control.’. It was really risky.
There’s that old rhetorical question that parents posit to their children when they disapprove of them following a particular popular trend: “If all your friends jumped off a bridge then would you too?” Shinwari then speaks to camera in the hospital, saying he believes he would have died had a rescuer not thrown him a life raft.
