The 2016 Golden Globes laid bear – everything you missed
Apparently some people at Sunday night’s Golden Globes ceremony won awards. It was a night of surprises, laughter, and barbed comments from fourth-time host Ricky Gervais.
Denzel Washington was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award given annually to an artist for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.
Jennifer Lawrence won for best comedic actress for her turn in “Joy”, about a woman who becomes the founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty.
Original Score: Ennio Morricone, “The Hateful Eight”. Both “The Revenant” starring Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic, Wolf of Wall Street) and “The Martian” starring Matt Damon (Interstellar, The Bourne Identity) were nominated for the top awards and so were the actors.
Does that mean “The Revenant” is a shoe-in for best picture? Its lead actor Gael García Bernal took the gong for his role as conductor Rodrigo De Souza.
While Lady Gaga won a Golden Globe, the actor’s expression won the internet. The series has already received the Television Program of the Year award from the 2015 American Film Institute Awards and Audience Award for Best Episodic from the 2015 SXSW Film Audience Award.
However, the most surprising victor of the night was Mozart in the Jungle, which not only took home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy, Gael García Bernal also took home the Best Actor in a Comedy trophy, beating out the likes of Jeffrey Tambor, Aziz Ansari, and thespian Patrick Stewart.
As Radar previously reported, her Hollywood career got off to a good start on Sunday when soon-to-be wife of actor Taylor Kinney, 34, got her first taste of Hollywood backlash from DiCaprio, 41.
The film is likely to see a boost after taking the Golden Globe for motion picture drama, while Leonardo DiCaprio was recognized for acting and Alejandro G. Iñárritu was honored for directing.
“This is the most hard journey I’ve embarked on”, said Inarritu, who past year won directing and best picture Oscars for “Birdman”.
