Dolphins take plunge with Gase
Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, the NFL’s hottest head coaching candidate among assistants, became the fifth coach to interview for the Miami Dolphins’ job Thursday.
“We did exhaustive research on all of the candidates ahead of time and conducted thorough and detailed interviews with each person”, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement issued by the team.
The Chicago offensive coordinator was the first candidate in a crowded field to be invited for a second interview with the Dolphins, a source said.
They did interview former head coaches Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith and Doug Marrone this week.
Tannehill, the eighth overall selection in the 2012 draft, had a breakout season in 2014, but regressed this season as the Dolphins went 6-10. Gase has worked with quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler, and Jay Cutler.
After less than a week into their coaching search, the Miami Dolphins have found their 12th coach in franchise history and his name is Adam Gase.
As such, the Bears are now in the market for a new offensive coordinator, although GM Ryan Pace believes the presence of head coach John Fox will facilitate that process. If Gase could mold Cutler imagine what he could do with Tannehill.
But the thing most Dolphins fans want to hear about is Gase’s plan for Tannehill, who hasn’t played well consistently during his four-year career.
Gase met with team president John Mara and general manager Jerry Reese at the team’s headquarters on Friday, the Giants said. Despite dealing with a plethora of injuries to skill position players (Kevin White, Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Eddie Royal), the Bears finished 21st in offense and 23rd in total points per game under Gase’s watch.
Two years ago, Gase was the hotshot assistant coach of a record-breaking Denver Broncos and was looking to interview for a head coaching job.
Will the Chicago Bears’ offense regress in 2016 without Adam Gase as the offensive coordinator? Gase spent this season with Cutler and helped resurrect his career. “I’m sure he’ll make a great head coach in this league”.
