Doug Pederson To Men Chip Kelly’s work on Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Daily News first reported the news.
Coughlin interviewed for the Eagles, but it didn’t seem the 69-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion would fit in there.
Pederson is a former Eagles quarterback and now on the staff of former Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid. Kansas City plays at New England on Saturday.
“I have a lot of respect for the organization and what they’re doing there”, Pederson said Wednesday.
Kansas City Chief OC Doug Pederson has accepted an offer from the Philadelphia Eagles to become their next HC.
The team had a strong interest in Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who went through an eight-hour interview and left such an impression the Eagles were reportedly going to schedule him for a second interview.
If Howie Roseman is the “GUY”, then he should be on the hook for the decision of who is coaching the team, not cowering behind the apron strings of the recently revealed rumors of a head coach committee that included Ron Jaworski as a “special adviser”, team chairman Jeffrey Lurie, team president Don Smolenski and vice president Howie Roseman. I see that as a good thing – Reid and Pederson weren’t trying to force the Chiefs to do something they weren’t built to do. The former quarterback turned coach has worked under former Eagles head coach Andy Reid for years, leaving some questioning whether he’s experienced enough. Pederson played and coached in the NFL. Reid called the plays although he delegated some of that responsibility to Pederson this season. But Reid acknowledged earlier this season that Pederson has started to share more of that burden, helping to prepare him for a head coaching opportunity. “Great offensive coordinator”, said Anthony Mazzone.
“I think it’s great he has an opportunity, compliment to the hard work he’s put in and he’s done a nice job”, Reid said. I think he’s ready for anything that anybody throws at him. Whatever happens, happens, that’s not my business.
The Eagles head coach position became available when Chip Kelly was sacked with one regular-season game remaining.
The Giants’ 420 points this past season was the fifth-highest total in franchise history, and their 5,952 net yards was the third-highest total. If they wanted an offensive mind – and it is clear that is what they wanted – why not at least solicit the opinions about the defensive players on your roster from some people who coach it? But he’s a relatable guy. Just has that quality about him, that coolness, he can relate to players.
Their director of football operations, Chris Ballard, has already interviewed for the open general manager job in Tennessee.
Hue Jackson? Sure, he went 8-8 in Oakland in his only year of being a head coach, but the Raiders were 7-4 that year and faded down the stretch and missed the postseason.
This is nothing new to Reid, of course.
