Trump slams Cruz as a hypocrite
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump ramped up his attack of Ted Cruz on Friday, calling him “strident” and labeling his remarks about “New York values” in the GOP debate “disgraceful”.
The New York Times reported Friday Cruz not only failed to report a loan from Goldman Sachs for his 2012 campaign, he also failed to report one from Citibank.
And he would have come away nearly unscathed had he not popped off about NY. Reporter: And his crews took the stage in SC, more tweets, trump slamming Cruz for his comments on NY value.
Trump said Democrats would sue if Cruz were on the Republican ticket, putting their party’s chances of winning at risk. “Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage”, Cruz said, adding that New Yorkers are focused “around money and the media”.
Cruz then attacked the policies of the state’s Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo, and New York City mayor Bill De Blasio.
“Senator Cruz, I was disappointed by your disparaging remarks about NY values somehow being different from Iowa and New Hampshire values”. “We also have to have someone for president who knows exactly what they’re going to do when they get there”.
Many New Yorkers PIX11 asked about the issue agreed that what they deserved to hear was the Texas senator saying he was sorry.
“I apologize to all the pro-life and pro-marriage and pro-Second Amendment New Yorkers who are told by Gov. Cuomo that they have no place in New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are”, Cruz continued.
Cruz applauded Trump’s mention of the city’s response to 9/11 on Thursday, but was steadfast in his refusal to back down over his criticism of the city and state’s values.
The two men also sparred over the Canadian-born Cruz’s eligibility to be president.
“You know cities are cities, but they’re basically people, their brick and mortar and they’re people and he spoke very disparagingly about the people of New York”, Trump told the crowd.
The U.S. Constitution says a president or vice president must be a “natural born citizen” but does not say whether the term means the candidate must be born on U.S. soil or just be a citizen at birth.
Cruz wrapped up the exchange by noting how he was glad to hear in Trump’s response that he’d consider him as his running mate. Cruz fires back. It seems Donald has a lot offer in energy.
Cruz is “the only one who’ll do what he says he’s going to do”, said Teri Sullivan, 61, a businesswoman from Aiken, while Trump will likely act like President Obama and start issuing executive orders.
THURSDAY’S DEBATE comes less than three weeks before the Iowa caucuses kick off this year’s voting.
Cruz calls it a “paperwork error” that he included the loans only on Senate personal financial disclosures, but not on the Federal Election Commission filings that typically get more attention before voters cast ballots.
