‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Achieves the Biggest Box Office Revenue in
For those who are doing the calculations in their heads, there is good reason to believe that “Star Wars” might be the first film in the history of box office records to reach $1 billion in the US alone. By all accounts, The Force Awakens essentially did the job on Monday. J Abrams and company.
Disney said the seventh instalment in the “Star Wars” franchise had earned US$764.4 million in ticket sales from the USA and Canada by Wednesday, surpassing the earlier record of US$760.5 million earned by James Cameron’s Oscar-winning sci-fi epic “Avatar”. That movie held the No. 1 spot for six years.
“Avatar” earned almost $750 million during its original seven-month release in 2009, plus another $10 million or so during a re-release.
The Force Awakens now holds over thirty box office records.
Biggest opening day, biggest single day, biggest Christmas day and biggest opening week are just some of the records the film has broken here in the U.S.
What’s working for “The Force Awakens”, as opposed to most other films, is that people are going back to see it twice, three times. As of Tuesday, “Force Awakens” had earned $1.56 billion worldwide, however, it does not include the major market in China – it is set to open there on January 9.
It will only take four weekends for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to pass Jurassic World on the worldwide box office chart, analysts confirm.
Star Wars has been breaking records left and right since its release, starting with its opening weekend when it made a staggering $248million at the box office.
