BJP delegation meets President over Malda violence
Indeed, Malda has now become the site of a political battle between the Trinamool and the BJP, the former describing the January 3 incident as a purely criminal episode, the latter saying it is a serious communal incident.
Kolkata: A BJP delegation will on Saturday meet President Pranab Mukherjee as the party has demanded a high-level inquiry into the violence in West Bengal’s Malda district. The police have told media persons that they were given no instructions by the State Government to act against the mob, which had assembled under the banner of Edara-e-Sharia to protest against comments made on the Prophet by a person in UP a month ago.
The delegation comprising party’s General secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, secretary Siddharth Nath Singh and other leaders also submitted a memorandum to the President in this regard. “The Malda incident is linked to the country’s internal security…”
“We will expose her government”, the leader added.
With BJP sensing an opportunity to corner the Trinamool Congress government over Malda violence, top party leaders, including its chief Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, are likely to hold public meetings starting next week in the poll-bound state. It is understood that dossiers of key criminals were prepared and were kept at Kaliachak police station. The reality is that it was burnt as all those leading the violent clashes are linked with fake currency and opium cultivation and they wanted to eliminate the police records.
The Mamata Banerjee-led government has been on the defensive on the issue.
