Jeb Bush Gets Lindsey Graham’s Endorsement For President
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham endorsed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for president on Friday, the campaign confirmed. Friday in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.
Graham dropped out of the presidential race in December. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
He also said he liked Rubio, the youthful Cuban-American from Florida in his first term in the Senate, but suggested he is too inexperienced to be commander in chief.
Graham applauded Bush for his stance on Muslim immigration – making sure people are “properly vetted” – and plan to combat the Islamic State group.
“Sen. Lindsey Graham embarrassed himself with his failed run for President and now further embarrasses himself with endorsement of Bush”, he tweeted.
That’s right … dude was drawing 1.7 percent support in his home state.
Trump dismissed Graham’s move on Twitter.
The endorsement comes on the heels of Thursday’s Fox Business Network debate in SC. “I believe he will”. In South Carolina, a great organization matters.
“Jeb Bush is ready on day one”, he added.
“This is a big deal nationally”. But he praised Bush as a worthy replacement on the national security front, saying he’ll “rebuild a military in decline” and restore the armed forces’ faith in its political leaders. “And along with it come a lot of friends and supporters of his, so I’m excited about it”. Donors were pitted against each other to see who could raise more and be in the good graces of the man who, at the time, was described by many in Bush World as the inevitable nominee. George W. Bush made mistakes, but he did adjust.
Graham said earlier this month that he wants to support a candidate who would criticize them for that – something Bush has done. After all, we will be told, the Palmetto State has always been the “firewall” for Republican Establishment candidates who got into trouble in Iowa or New Hampshire.
