Celine Dion’s brother passes away
Celine Dion’s brother Daniel has died aged 59 after losing his battle with cancer, just two days after the singer’s husband also passed away.
According to a statement released by his family, the singer’s brother died on Saturday at Maison Adhémar-Dion, a palliative care center in Terrebonne, Quebec after battling with cancer.
“He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man”, the tribute read.
Angelil was her manager for decades, molding her from a French-speaking Canadian ingénue into one of the world’s most successful singers.
Daniel is the eighth child of Therese and Adhemar Dion’s 13 children.
Daniel Dion’s funeral will be held in the family’s hometown of Charlemagne, Quebec. He died of cancer related complications.
“It looks a lot like Rene, he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain”.
The funeral for Angelil will take place next Friday at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal where the couple married, a family spokesman said.
The Canadian entertainment manager, who discovered Dion (47) when she was 12-years-old and drove her career to stardom. He died in Las Vegas where Celine has been headlining at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
“He was ready, and isn’t suffering any more”, she said.
The couple have three sons, René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy. Her next scheduled show is set for February 23.
