Braden Holtby requests $8 million in arbitration, Caps 18/1 to win Cup
Washington Capitals restricted free agent goaltender Braden Holtby has asked for $8 million in his arbitration filing, according to Tim Wharnsby of Reuters.
Braden Holtby and the Washington Capitals are heading to arbitration on July 23rd to hammer out some contract issues. In advance of that hearing, the two sides have submitted their requests.
But can he do it again and help the Caps and their new teammates get over the hump? He followed with a two-year deal that paid him $1.85 million in 2013-14 and $2.175 million last season.
Holtby finished in the top ten among league goalies with his.
This is how this kind of thing works. “But at the end of the day, the team wants the player to perform and they want him back”.
The Capitals can’t want to see this thing go to arbitration.
“Job security is something that doesn’t come around very often in this profession, so if you can find some it’s great”, Holtby said in May, once the Capitals lost in Game 7 of the second round to the New York Rangers.
If Holtby is awarded somewhere in the $6.5 million range, the Caps would have less than $4 million in cap space to accommodate Johansson. According to Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post, the Capitals have elected for a one-year award.
Johansson’s agent, Marc Levine, told CSNwashington.com in an email last week that there was “nothing to comment on at this point other than we are preparing for the arbitration hearing on July 29”. That will keep Holtby a restricted free agent after next season, but another big year could mean another substantial raise on his next deal.
