Fans Should Be Happy Now, Says Van Gaal
Scholes said: “The players looked bored themselves”.
Asked why supporters had left early, Van Gaal said: “Maybe [because] we haven’t scored”.
“Then I would leave the stadium five minutes before the end”.
United were booed off at half-time, but Van Gaal suggested the early exit of fans was not necessarily a criticism.
And as frustrating as it was for supporters to watch as their team struggled to see off the League One side, it has not been a rare occurrence this season. How many stadiums were like our stadium – full, I think?
The under-pressure Dutchman also acknowledged the Man United fans’ frustration when they ironically cheered their side’s first meaningful attack in the 65th minute against Sheffield United on Saturday evening.
It was the 10 consecutive game at Old Trafford in which United have failed to score in the opening 45 minutes as the Red Devils mustered just two shots in the first half.
“I can understand that [the ironic cheers] because it was an effect that we were not shooting too much and not able to shoot at goal too much”, he added.
“In the Christmas period, he played every game and we have to take care of that”.
“There are matches that I have enjoyed”, Van Gaal said.
According to Paul Scholes, the Manchester United players and manager Louis van Gaal look bored.
“Do you know that”, Van Gaal snapped during an edgy press conference at Carrington. “I think that’s the way he likes to play football”.
“They are getting motivation out of us not scoring”.
Van Gaal also insisted the fans were right to voice discontent at the club’s laboured performances.
But don’t expect the Reds boss to be copying Sir Alex Ferguson and jumping up and down, red faced in the technical area in a close up bid to ignite his players. You never know what the reason is. “It would take me two or three days to get over that performance”, said Scholes, speaking as a pundit on BT Sport. “I believe in communication during the week, during the preparation, and I believe in my players who have to perform”, he told The Mirror.
“It’s very hard because of the noise”.
