Obama also told the crowd – estimated by a fire marshal at 11,000 – that “we are far and away the strongest nation on the planet” and that it was unusual that some in the State of the Union audience last night didn’t applaud when he asserted the claim. “Period. Period. It’s not even close”.
The President said he’d like Congress’ help in closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, but Republicans have made clear that is unlikely to happen.
The president seemed to referencing the instances in which Cruz has said that if elected presidenet, he would “carpet bomb” ISIS. That’s the story ISIL wants to tell; that’s the kind of propaganda they use to recruit.
“We just need to call them what they are?_?killers and fanatics who have to be rooted out, hunted down and destroyed”.
“The President gives lip service to “We the People” yet has rejected the entire idea of ‘government of the people, by the people, and for the people.’ He has issued endless executive orders, ignoring longstanding principles of separation of powers and constitutional limits on his own power. While at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, the DC rapper made history as the first rapper to open up a State of the Union Address.
“I’m going to try to make it a little shorter”, he said.
Two presidential candidates – Senators Republican Marco Rubio and Democrat Bernie Sanders – attended the president’s State of the Union address.
Overall the president’s last speech was one that I will remember into this presidential election season.
The White House notes that unemployment in the pair of Republican-leaning states has fallen significantly since Obama took office.
