Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens to $53 million in China
Basically, this has been an awesome weekend for DiCaprio, director Alejandro G. Inarritu, and The Revenant, as the movie went on to claim Golden Globes for DiCaprio’s grueling performance, Innaritu’s direction, and Best Picture (Drama) in addition to all its box office success.
In the USA the movie had the biggest-ever opening weekend and is now the highest-grossing film of all time, the Journal added. The film is still sitting atop the box office charts almost a month after its release, and it’s broken so many records that it’s getting hard to keep track of them all.
The nationwide release of “The Revenant” made way more money than analysts were expecting, bringing in an estimated $38 million for the weekend and actually beating “Star Wars” in Friday ticket sales. However, it was almost defeated by Leonardo DiCaprio and his bear.
The big question with this film is how much staying power it will have, as it will need it to make back a large $135 million budget. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip”, $5.5 million ($5.8 million international). 9. That said, Abrams has also confirmed that there are no plans to put out an extended version of the film on disc. We may get deleted scenes when the DVD and Blu-ray come around, though, but nothing has been announced thus far.
Sisters follows two sisters (Amy Poehler and Tina Fey) who find out their parents are selling their family home, so they throw one last house party. It has made since debuting over Christmas. The movie opens in limited release on December 25, 2015, and wider release in US theaters on January 8, 2016. The revisionist Western picked up 6.4 million, bringing its total to 41.5 million. It’s also the biggest film of all time at the USA box office, having now earned $812 million here alone. Variety is reporting that the film earned a record-breaking $53 million for the weekend.
“It’s very graphic, it’s very real”, said 20th Century Fox’s Chris Aronson. It sits in sixth place with $6.4 million. The new film, however, still had a very healthy weekend and took in $38M.
