New Orleans Saints release linebacker Junior Galette
The New Orleans Saints are set to release linebacker Junior Galette, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Lyons Yellin of WWL-TV in Louisana spoke to Galette after the release and posted the following series of tweets.
October 5, 2014; New Orleans, LA, USA; New Orleans Saints linebacker Junior Galette (93) tackles Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Austin Sefarian-Jenkins during a game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. He said the team notified him by phone, and that he’s met with the NFL recently and thought he was in the clear with any off-field issues. Galette signed a six-year deal with the team last September that has already paid him more than $17 million, but he’s gone after turning in 10 sacks in 16 games for the team last season.
Galette was scheduled to meet with NFL officials last month in New York to determine whether any punishment is warranted for a January arrest on allegations of domestic violence against a female houseguest – although the case was dismissed.
A video surfaced in June from a 2013 brawl that took place on 2013 that showed Galette striking several people with a belt, including a woman.
Per Larry Holder of the Times-Picayune after the video gained traction, Galette’s attorney, Ralph Whalen, told various media outlets the man in the video wasn’t his client, and the Saints knew of the video and sent it to the NFL offices.
Rapoport cited a league source in a post to Twitter.
