René Angélil, Celine Dion’s husband, dies of cancer at age 73
Rene Angelil was also the singer’s manager. “The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment”. In August 2014, Dion, 47, announced that she was postponing her career “indefinitely” to care for her husband, whom she married in December 1994.
According to report, Celine Dion took two career breaks to look after her husband after he was diagnosed with throat cancer, first in 2000. The “Beauty and the Beast” singer then shared, at that time, her husband’s battle to throat cancer.
Celine revealed previous year that he was so ill he had to be fed through tubes, but that he wanted her to keep performing.
Dion commented at the time that she wanted to stay strong for her husband, as his fight has inspired her to stay strong for the sake of their children.
René Angélil passed away yesterday, January 14, 2016 at the age of 73, after losing a battle with cancer.
“I’d never heard anything like it. For me, it was the most attractive voice in the world”, he would recall in interviews.
Dion said Angelil had talked about dying and even discussed his funeral plans. After he was born, and with Angelil on the mend, Dion retreated from touring and started the residency in Las Vegas so she could be more stable.
“I’ll say, “You’re scared?” “Like I said to my children, ‘You want to come and help me feed papa today…You want to help me out?”
“He’s working really hard on his health”, Dion said at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.
