Trump accepts ‘mantle of anger’ from Nikki Haley
The nation’s youngest sitting governor gave the same answer she’s offered for months, telling morning-show hosts that she is willing to speak with presidential candidates who want to consider her for the No. 2 spot. And he can back that up by pointing out that he is largely despised by most of the Republican establishment in Washington for his confrontational – and many say self-aggrandizing – tactics. “We turned toward God, and to the values that have long made our country the freest and greatest in the world”, Haley said. Frum spells out several options the Republican party has to address the Trump problem. That is a major reason Trump’s “angry voice” is winning him so much support. “It’s not anger, it’s anxiety, and the anxiety is over our lack of foreign policy, domestic terror and the economy is still awful”. And she urged Americans to turn a deaf ear to the angriest and loudest voices on immigration issues.
“Mr. Trump has definitely contributed to what I think is just irresponsible talk”, she said on NBC’s “Today” show. Born in South Carolina, Haley is the daughter of immigrants from India. And it means welcoming properly vetted legal immigrants, regardless of their race or religion.
A special nightmare scenario for conservatives who fall into this camp would be if U.S. Sen.
Conservatives have criticized Bush, Florida’s former governor, for backing the controversial education standards, and Rubio, a senator from Florida, has taken heat for supporting a comprehensive immigration bill in 2013. Yes, she got a grumpy (though not searing) response from The Donald, and a few drive-bys from Trump’s nativist and Islamophobic fans, including the friendly folks at Breitbart.
“And yes, I am angry”, Trump said.
“A lot of this, including many parts of the speech last night, were admirable”. And yes, I am angry.
But she’s a very nice woman, a very good woman.
“I think some of the things she has done over the previous year are remarkable”.
“No Republican has won the presidency without winning OH, and you can not win OH with a divisive message”, Borges said as the Republican National Committee convened its winter meetings in Charleston, South Carolina.
“I think she demonstrated a lot of maturity when she called some of her party members out on their campaigning”.
“I thought she was remarkable, actually. I don’t know if I expected it”.
Haley said one of the purposes of her speech was to bring attention to the GOP’s role in creating the culture in Washington “where there’s entitlement for elected officials”.
Haley’s selection also was an effort to distance the party from some of Trump’s positions, including his call for a halt on Muslim immigration to the U.S. Haley, 43, an Indian-American, spoke out against Trump’s stance toward Muslim immigration and leads an early-voting state considered important to the nominating process.
