Tom Hardy dedicates Oscar nomination to The Revenant team
In a move few awards-season experts saw coming, Tom Hardy snuck into the unpredictable best-supporting-actor race to nab his first-ever Oscar for his work opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant.
The strong showing for “The Revenant”, including a best actor nod for Leonardo DiCaprio, follows its win at the Golden Globes.
Irish-Canadian author Emma Donoghue, London, Ont.-born Rachel McAdams and Toronto-native the Weeknd also picked up Oscar nominations.
Based on the true story of a frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), who was left for dead in a harsh winter in the 1800s, the film had a long and hard shoot in snowbound Canada and Argentina.
Iñarritu joked on the red carpet, “I wanted 13 (nominations) but ok, that’s fine, it’s enough”.
On hearing the news of him being nominated, Leonardo DiCaprio said: “I am so grateful to the Academy for their recognition of this film”. In the early ’90s Civic commercial, Leo calls the compact hatch a “great ride” and says “it feels like a jet”, which, I guess, is all the talking DiCaprio needs to do to coax a kiss out of the young lady in the passenger seat, who isn’t even a Victoria’s Secret supermodel.
“I said, ‘Shut your trap house, ‘ which never made the cut”, Hardy reminisces.
“I don’t know how it happened”, he admitted.
The 41-year-old was nominated for a best actor Oscar on Thursday for his lead role in The Revenant.
Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams – who looked stunning in a black two piece – Sir John Hurt and Noomi Rapace were also in attendance.
