Cruz ‘apologizes’ to people of NY (for bad government)
Andrew Cuomo thinks Ted Cruz “owes New Yorkers an apology” for his remarks about “New York values” during Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate in SC.
Chief among the offended is New York City’s mayor, who demanded an apology, that Mr. Cruz gave, although in a decidedly sarcastic, self-serving way. “I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by the liberal politicians in that state”.
“And then he insults the people of NY and the values of NY, the very same values – (Donald) Trump’s right – that were part of overcoming the greatest attack this nation has ever received on our soil”, he added.
The Daily News front page said “Drop Dead, Ted”, and had a cartoon of the Statue of Liberty flipping the bird at the Texas senator.
Trump and Cruz got into a lengthy back and forth on the eligibility issue at Thursday’s presidential debate in SC.
But the prize for the most blatantly hypocritical response goes jointly to Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio.
Told he was describing episodes of “Seinfeld”, Cruz replied: “Believe me, if I could say liberal Jews, I would”.
“In 30 seconds, the man not only criticized NY and our 18 million people, but it was anti-gay, it was anti-woman, and it was so antithetical to what this country is all about”, Cuomo told WCBS 880. Those are the views of NY.
“They ran into the buildings and they were running up the stairs and they knew it could collapse”, Trump said while talking about first-responders on the ground immediately following the attack. You tell me who stops him and when do they do it?
Cruz has raised $490,600 from New Yorkers, his presidential campaign finance filings show. “It’s a good idea- maybe I’ll talk to them about it. I’d like to talk to Ted about it, see how he’d feel about it. ‘Cause you know, when I file suits, I file real suits”. But speaking to reporters at a church not far from Charlotte on Saturday, Cruz, who once declined to attack Trump, shed any caution he may have had about laying into his top rival.
Cruz’s campaign has said the failure to report the loan was a paperwork error.
One in 38 Americans lives in New York City, but the state’s record of going for the Democrat in the winner-take-all electoral college system means Republicans rarely have to worry about insulting the populace.
