Celine Dion’s brother dies from cancer
Celine’s husband René Angélil died from throat cancer aged 73 on Thursday.
The reports on the prognosis of Dion’s brother were confirmed by her representative, Kim Jakwerth, USA Today reported. The two first met in 1980 when Dion was just 12 and had recorded a demo tape with her mother, which they sent to Angelil.
Her sister Claudette had revealed earlier this week the family had been told he had “hours or days” left to live.
Daniel Dion lost his life just days after Celine’s husband René Angélil passed away following a battle with the disease.
Daniel is one of Dion’s 13 siblings. He had been fighting brain, tongue and throat cancer.
Daniel Dion, 59, died on Saturday near Montreal, a statement by the singer’s spokeswoman said.
Daniel will be honored at a funeral later in January at St-Simon-et-Jude in Charlemagne Quebec, where the family was raised.
Meanwhile, a commemorative celebration will be held on February 3 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. “You can not be crying and be depressed and consistently talk about, ‘Oh my God, ‘” Dion had told x in August 2015 after she returned to her Las Vegas residency show.
Angelil’s funeral is set to take place at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica next Saturday, the same church where he married the singer in 1994.
