GOP establishment loses hope of winning Iowa, New Hampshire
“A lot of people aren’t going to like that”, said Trump, whose rhetoric is also seen by many as strident.
“Put down your computer keyboard for a few hours, think before you tweet, and collect yourself”, Levin wrote.
While Cruz seemed to have parried the attack for now, he was stung by Trump on another issue: Whether people who live in New York City have the same values as other Americans.
Levin has not yet endorsed a candidate in the 2016 election, but has spoken highly of Cruz before. The Texas senator has attempted to draft off of the anger that Trump has stoked among Republican primary voters, repeatedly saying that Trump’s bid was beneficial for Cruz’s own candidacy as an insurgent outsider.
Trump seized on a report in The New York Times that said Cruz had failed to disclose a second loan, from Citibank, that helped bankroll his 2012 Senate campaign.
The jab appeared to be an attempt to dismantle Trump’s identity as a conservative, but many said it backfired after an emotional response from Trump, who was born and raised in Queens. “My friend Donald Trump said that he had his lawyers look at this from every which way, and there was no issue there”. As president, I trust him to secure the border and keep America safe.
Cruz’s attack sparked outrage in NY, where the front page of the Daily News illustrated the Statue of Liberty with a single finger artfully extended alongside the headline: “DROP DEAD, TED”. “If you’re a big government person you want your citizenry docile and ignorant and unarmed”. I apologize to all of the small businesses who’ve been driven out of New York City by crushing taxes and regulations. Reporter: Now Cruz learning the risks of taking on NY.
“Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal, pro-abortion or pro- gay marriage, focused around money and the media”.
Adopting a mocking, sardonic tone toward Trump that would’ve been unthinkable even a week ago, Cruz presented South Carolina Republicans with the outline of what is likely to be his argument up until they head to the polls on February 20.
On Saturday, Trump drew boos from a grassroots conservative crowd during remarks at the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition Convention for his attack on Cruz’s previously undisclosed loans.
GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz is not backing down from his derisive comments about “New York values”.
Trump, who published a torrent of tweets criticizing Cruz Saturday morning, also knocked the senator for comments he made disparaging “New York values”.
Much to the chagrin of his many detractors on both the right and the left, Ted Cruz has turned out to be anything but the bombastic flamethrower that they thought he was, and continue to tell people he is despite all the evidence to the contrary. “I will apologize”, the Texas senator said in SC. “It’s The New York Times, they are always wrong”.
Cruz continued with a litany of “apologies” to jab at Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio.
