Cuomo: Cruz should apologize over NY slam
The New York billionaire and the Texas senator appeared to have a split decision by the end of the night, a sign that for all the bluster, little took place that could derail Trump from his lead position with a contest in Iowa on February 1 to begin the search for a Republican presidential nominee.
Trying to prove Trump is not the conservative he says he is, Cruz’s campaign released a video entitled “Donald Trump’s New York Values” that linked to a 1999 interview Trump did on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in which Trump declared he favored a woman’s right to abortion and supported gay marriage.
Trump grabbed onto two new reports in order to question Cruz’s character while simultaneously embracing his favorite issue against the senator: Canada.
“If he had any class or possessed true presidential timber, Ted Cruz would offer New Yorkers a real apology instead of sarcasm – not because we need it, but to prove he’s not a hypocrite. When the World Trade Center came down I saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York”, Trump responded.
“I will apologize to no one with how vigorous I would be in winning the war on terror”, Cruz said. The Times earlier had reported that Cruz had not disclosed a loan from Goldman Sachs for the same campaign. So, Trump’s campaign will benefit from this Cruz slip-up in a state where Trump’s presence already dominates the Manhattan skyline. In September, Trump had told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl that he felt Cruz, who was born to an American mother, was in good standing. Ted Cruz (R-TX) by saying he isn’t well liked.
Trump said Democrats are planning lawsuits to keep Cruz from the White House. In October, Levin said on his radio show that Cruz is the “most consistently conservative candidate running”. He added: “I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made”.
Cruz then proceeded, in detail, to attack Cuomo, the governor of New York, for his disapproval of fracking, the controversial energy extraction process, while also aiming his sights on de Blasio, New York City’s mayor, for his policies on taxes, charter schools and policing.
The issue comes more than two weeks before the Iowa caucus, and the race between Cruz and Trump is growing tighter.
Some analysts believe Trump’s response was “below the belt” because there was no hope for Cruz to come back.
“I’m glad everyone is talking about Rafael Eduardo Cruz”, Trump said.
