[WATCH]: Ryan Reynolds Gambles in ‘Mississippi Grind’ Trailer
In the new movie “Mississippi Grind,”Ben Mendelsohn plays a gambling addict who owes money to (his words) “everyone”.
In the Sundance-debuted flick, he puts on his best poker face and hits the casino to help a random down-on-his-luck gambler (Ben Mendelsohn) earn his way back into the world’s good graces – that is, dig himself out of debt, one jackpot at a time.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Gerry (Mendelsohn) is a talented but struggling poker player about to be swallowed up by his unshakeable gambling habit. The highs and lows unveil the duo’s true characters and motivations, and an undeniable bond forms between them.’.
Reminiscent of classic 1970s American Cinema, “Mississippi Grind” is an unforgettable journey featuring two characters who-flawed as they maybe-are always worth rooting for. After all, it co-stars Ryan Reynolds with future awards darling Ben Mendelsohn (just wait), in a movie written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, previously of acclaimed Ryan Gosling indie Half Nelson (*cough* wildly overrated *cough, cough*). It’s a film about friendship, addiction, regret, family, and the paths we sometimes unexpectedly find ourselves on. Ahead of that, it will be available to watch via DirecTV on August 13. It’s heading to select U.S. theaters on September 25.
