Rooney blasts ‘silly goals’ after United draw to Newcastle
London, Jan.13: Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that Louis Van Gaal-led side can make it to the top four in the Premier League, but ruled out their possibility to claim this season’s title.
Chris Smalling is confident Manchester United can take their frustrations out on Liverpool on Sunday after their midweek disappointment at Newcastle.
Rooney has responded well to criticism of his below-par performances earlier this season and was back to his best at relegation-threatened Newcastle, also laying on United’s second goal for Jesse Lingard with some clever approach play.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to win a Premier League match for the first time since August.
“That was like watching a Manchester United team”.
“He is a legend and he has scored so many goals”. I have said in all my press conferences that you have to score one more goal than your opponent, and we didn’t do that. I don’t think so at the minute.
McClaren felt the decision was ridiculous, but Van Gaal is certain it was a spot-kick and does not feel there should be a discussion over the decision. We haven’t won in a few games but the crowd were behind the team all game and I want to thank them for that.
“I am proud to have the chance to play against him”. We said it might be a 0-0 and it’s ended up a 3-3.
“The crowd responded magnificently and we wanted to show everyone what we are about”, he said.
“It must have been a great game for the neutrals – it was a heart attack for the coaches”.
“Then there was the heavyweight wrestling match between Mitrovic and Smalling, you can see Mitrovic pushing his head down and then you have to decide who is heavyweight champion”.
“I think we’re always trying to create chances”. We done that by coming back twice from behind.
Luckily for Mitrovic and the fans, this one happened very close to the referee and was especially blatant. If I don’t feel good, I give it to a team-mate.
