The Moment Powerball Jackpot Winning Ticket Was Bought in Tennessee
John Robinson said he reached out to his brother for help assembling a team of lawyers and financial planners before deciding to take the winnings in a single lump sum of almost $328 million, rather than let the Lottery invest the prize and pay him 30 annual installments totaling an estimated $533 million.
“Now I’ll be nervous because everybody knows, ” John Robinson told his interviewers on the “Today” show set, where he appeared with his wife, daughter and lawyer.
John Robinson said he purchased the winning ticket in Munford Wednesday night at Naifeh’s Food Market, The Today Show reported.
John said that they “didn’t know exactly what do to”.
“You can’t just sit down and do nothing anymore”, John Robinson said.
“We were up all night”, she told the broadcast network. “We didn’t get any sleep”.
There have been hoax winners in the past and lottery officials have so far not announced any winners the three states where the tickets were sold: Tennessee, California and Florida. All three states with winners have laws requiring their names be released publicly, according to the Powerball website. They also have a second home nearby where Robinson “loves to fish”, said Roy Smith, who described them as “fine people”, dependable and hard-working.
Florida has closed its offices Friday and won’t be able to confirm any winners until Tuesday because they will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King Day. The odds of winning in Powerball are said to be one in 292.2 million, media reports said.
A Pomona, California nurse identified by her employer as the victor of the record-breaking Powerball jackpot did not, in fact, win, her family told ABC News.
In a freaky scene, host Savannah Guthrie led into the segment saying that the “Today” show could not verify that they had won the Powerball, since the family had not yet contacted state lottery officials.
The ticket is worth $528,000,000 since there were two other winning tickets sold.
“I’m feeling very great, excited, and thanks to the customer who come here in my store and bought the ticket”, he said. She went to the Wawa, the clerk scanned her ticket. “I know they will use it wisely”.
The remaining ticket holders won prizes of $7 or $4. They got 27 quick pick tickets.
“It was emotional when they talked about what each of them were going to do with the winnings”, Tracy said.
