Pochettino happy to ‘stay alive’ in FA Cup
He did some light training on Monday morning, after a warm up, away from the main squad as boss Claudio Ranieri nurses him back to health.
Ranieri, in charge at the Vicente Calderon for the 1999-2000 season, was on the verge of signing Pochettino during his prime as a right-back, but the deal fell through because of financial difficulties.
Tottenham v Leicester City kicks-off at 4.00pm local time (03.00am AEDT) and will be streamed live online.
Another trip to north London on Wednesday could see Leicester finish the evening top of the table, with current leaders Arsenal facing a tricky trip to Liverpool. I don’t know exactly what the problem was.
“In the end, we were very pleased.
Because they started earlier than us”, said the Italian, who could hand a debut to 19-year-old winger Demarai Gray following his arrival from Birmingham this week.
He said: “If they lose impetus, I will be furious. I had agreed to go but they couldn’t pay because the government took over the club”.
Claudio Ranieri chose to bring on Shinji Okazaki at the interval, and the sub made an immediate impact when he danced his way into the box before firing a second effort in off the post after his first had been saved by Vorm.
Kane also expressed his delight at reaching the goal milestone fort his beloved club.
Asked whether he saw his long-term future at Spurs, despite speculation linking him with Real Madrid, Kane said: “Yes definitely”.
“Southampton started with the Pochettino era didn’t they? It is important for me to look at these players, to see if they are ready to fight”. But I’m happy. The performance was good.
Spurs are now four points behind Leicester in the League and will come into the fixture with the wind in their tails after the last minute equaliser by Kane.
“Not only Tottenham, Southampton, Crystal Palace – a lot of teams are fighting to build for the top four”, he added.
After 20 games of the season, Spurs are being talked about as possible contenders for a maiden Premier League title after taking 10 points from a possible 12 over the festive schedule, more than any other team.
“Even if we were doing really well in the Premier League it’s still a competition we’d want to win”, Loftus-Cheek told Chelsea TV.
