NFL Player’s Union Proposed Settlement Met with Silence by Leagu
Earlier this week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that there was no schedule for a ruling on Tom Brady’s Deflategate-induced four-game suspension appeal.
Wear him down? The NFL must not be very familiar with Tom Brady’s character. According to NFL.com, there were initial deliberations between the NFL and the NFLPA about a settlement in Brady’s case but those negotiations did not develop and have not continued.
There was also an ESPN report that said the NFLPA had offered a settlement that involved Brady paying a fine but not missing any games.
“Licensed product categories include men’s, women’s and youth game jerseys and t-shirts, player murals, figurines, matted and framed photos, bobbleheads, drinkware, socks, jewelry, electronic device accessories, among others”. While team owner Robert Kraft agreed upon the punishment, he stressed that he believed the Patriots had done nothing wrong.
Basically, Brady would say, “I didn’t cooperate with the league investigation, I understand why I’m being punished”, but he wouldn’t admit to guilt as far as deflating footballs. Brady is not barred from participating in team activities until the preseason ends. In addition, Patriots training camp is set to open next week. Although the potential deal would cut down Brady’s suspension, it wouldn’t reduce it to zero and Brady would still miss games. Pro Football Talk reported that Goodell has a small but influential group of owners in his ear urging him to stay the course on Brady’s suspension.
Brady’s appeal of the penalties handed down after the Wells report took place on June 23 in New York.
