The Tennessee couple who says they have one of three winning Powerball tickets is being described as a hard-working, dependable family.
“I didn’t know exactly what do to, ” John said.
“I think the American public wants to hear from them, and even though they want to be private after this is over, they want to let the public know that they’re the winners”, Townsend said on TODAY.
In Wednesday’s $1.58 billion, record-breaking Powerball jackpot, Lottery players in Erie and Niagara counties won $200,000 with four winning tickets sold for $50,000 each.
The workers pooled their ticket purchases and claimed the prize at Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville on Thursday afternoon, lottery officials said Friday morning. In order for the victor to claim prize, they must show up to a California Lottery office with the original ticket.
To receive the full jackpot amount, winners have to accept a multi-year annuity, whereas the lump sum cash payout for the jackpot was about $983.5 million, lottery officials said.
“Now I’ll be nervous because everybody knows”, Mr Robinson said.
The Robinsons appeared on the “Today” show on Friday morning and claimed to have the winning ticket.
A nurse in California thought she had won the world’s biggest lottery jackpot, but soon discovered she had a son with the world’s worst sense of humor.
The person in Chino Hills had purchased a ticket with the winning combination drawn minutes earlier: 4-8-19-27-34 and the Powerball number 10.
Amy Vess of Crescent City, who bought two tickets, said she usually just plays scratchers, but with the jackpot so high she couldn’t resist.
The winning ticket was one of three sold nationwide.
After Wednesday night’s drawing, group member Angel Lawrence checked the numbers from copies she’d made of the tickets.
