Leonardo DiCaprio Apologised to Lady Gaga For Globes Eyeroll. All Well Now
Followed by wins of countless other actors, movie and crew, such as Sylvester Stallone (“Rocky“) and Pixar’s “Inside Out”, the Globes were an exciting beginning to 2016’s award show season.
One of the favorites, “The Spotlight” did not receive any awards.
Ricky Gervais returned as host of the Golden Globe Awards after Tina Fey and Amy Poehler shared the job the previous three years. But one film that wasn’t eligible for a Golden Globe nomination is eligible for an Oscar nod: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
“Mr. Robot” won the globe for best television drama series, while “Mozart in the Jungle” won best musical or comedy series. Even more surprising (and perhaps a mite more suspicious): “Mozart” actor Gael Garcia Bernal winning for lead actor in a show in which he’s arguably only a supporting player.
Oh, and did we mention everyone thinks The Martian is a comedy?! Yes, comedy. To quote Nerdist senior editor Dan Casey on Twitter: “Nothing funnier than accidentally leaving a man to die on Mars”. Some stars and films were snubbed, but being that winners of the Golden Globes are chosen by less than 100 foreign journalists while the Oscars are decided by some 7,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, there are bound to be inconsistencies in the outcomes of the two award shows.
And Jennifer Lawrence told off a reporter in the press room who was asking her about her Joy win… while constantly staring at his phone. Ronan was nominated for best actress at the Golden Globes. I waited 20 years for this. “I’ve been sitting out in the parking lot for four days”. I take full responsibility for this. If you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly recommend giving it a few episodes.
Thumbs Down: Jamie Foxx is bad, too.
Ricky Gervais had a little argument with Mel Gibson on stage and walked back on to ask him: “What does sugar tits mean anyway?”
“So now I’m thinking more about what it is I want to say and what I want to leave on Earth”. She dedicated most of her speech to thanking director David O Russell, with whom she has made several films.
Denzel Washington accepts the Cecil B. Demille Award at the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, on January 10, 2016.
