Singer-songwriter Don McLean arrested in Maine
According to police, McLean was charged with the lowest level assault crime.
Singer Don McLean was reportedly arrested on a domestic violence charge on Monday. He posted bail for $10,000 and was released from custody a couple of hours later.
Singer-songwriter Don McLean has been charged with domestic violence assault following an incident at his home in Maine.
The mugshot – first obtained by the Wiscassat newspaper – was taken at the Knox County jail. Don is due in the Knox County District County Court in Rockland, Maine, to receive his sentencing on February 22, according to Penbay Pilot.
According to a profile piece in Memories of ME magazine, McLean moved to the state in the ’80s, where he married his second wife, Patrisha, in 1987.
McLean rose to fame as the result of “American Pie”, the 8-and-a-half minute song he wrote about the 1959 plane crash that killed rock-and-roll legend Buddy Holly.
It’s hard to imagine that this arrest belongs to the same man who sold a handwritten copy of his big hit for $1.2 million last April.
