Before Going to Lottery Officials, Winning Powerball Couple Goes on Today Show
A Tennessee couple has claimed they have one of the three winning tickets for the record $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot.
Lisa said she had written the numbers down to easily keep track when they were announced.
“That’s what we’ve done all our lives. I don’t want that now”, Lisa Robinson said.
One ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Chino Hills, east of Los Angeles, officials said.
They said they were yet to make plans on how to spend the money, though Mr Robinson admitted to being scared about managing his new wealth.
Lisa wrote the numbers down, watched the drawing and triple-checked the numbers before startling John awake with the news.
At 6:56 p.m., he bought four tickets as he always does – one for each member of his family – at Naifeh’s Food Market, located around the corner from their home.
The winning numbers for the Powerball jackpot were 8-27-34-4-19-10.
The couple, on their lawyer’s advice, agreed to travel to NY on Thursday night to appear on NBC’s Today show early on Friday. State lottery officials could not immediately be reached Friday morning.
In California, a pro skateboarder is claiming he bought another winning ticket, sold in Chino Hills, Calif. Erik Bragg posted a photo of his winning ticket on Instagram, though some are questioning its authenticity. He does information technology, and she works in a dermatologist’s office. The winners each overcame odds of 1 in 292.2 million to match all the winning numbers. That ticket, according to media reports, is owned by a 62-year old married nurse with seven children.
The jackpot on Wednesday was not just the largest in Powerball history, New York State lottery officials said, but also the largest of any lottery game in the United States.
Munford’s mayor, Dwayne Cole, had wished openly Thursday for an investment in the town, whose annual budget is $3.67 million.
The couple also said they would go to work on Monday. But Idaho had plenty of prize-winning tickets.
He then consulted his brother, who works in finance and referred them to a financial advisor, who recommended a lawyer. Saying they had slept only one hour in the last 48, they excused themselves from the press conference to get rest.
The Robinsons would be splitting the prize for a total of $528 million, as there were two other winning tickets sold, one in California and one in Florida.
John Robinson says he bought the ticket and three others Wednesday night while on the way home.
