Oregon State F ejected for tripping ref
Watch below, as Oregon St. senior forward Jarmal Reid is ejected from Sunday night’s 59-53 loss to Utah, after apparently intentionally tripping a referee. But a lunging Poeltl seemed to bump Reid and the Oregon State forward slipped and fell to the floor. The ref blew his whistle immediately, hit Reid with a flagrant foul, and ejected him from the game.
The replay of the incident shows Reid looking up at the official before he tosses the ball to his teammate Gary Payton II, and then as the official runs past him, he sticks his leg out and trips him. The Utes finally snapped their scoring drought with a pair of free throws from guard Lorenzo Bonam.
“I will have to review and discuss the entire play with Jarmal”, Tinkle said.
Tinkle hadn’t yet reviewed the play before his post-game comments, but said that Reid “swore he didn’t do anything”.
Oregon State: The Beavers are now 23-5 when leading at halftime under coach Wayne Tinkle….
According to Sean Meagher of the Oregonian, Reid was apparently frustrated with a no-call before the trip. “Felt like we didn’t play with energy the first half”.
Jamie Weisner added 18 points, including a key 3-pointer with just under a minute left, as the Beavers (14-3, 5-1 Pac-12) erased a 15-point third-quarter deficit.
Jamie Weisner pumped her fist in the air as she retreated back on defense after sinking the dagger 3-pointer for the Oregon State women. After controlling the first half, the Beavers went into the locker room with a 34-23 lead at the half. Utah will need to get Poeltl involved and take advantage of that matchup in the post. Three of their four losses this season have been by more than ten points including this week’s Colorado game, at no. 2 Kansas and against a good Valparaiso team. Tinkle served on Krystkowiak’s staff at Montana from 2004-2006…Utah leads the all-time series between the two programs 15-10.
The move couldn’t have come at a worse time, as it happened in a 52-52 game with under three minutes to play. The Utes shot 50 percent in the second half.
“It’s persistence in this league”. “Hopefully this is a little bit of a confidence boost for us to be able to close out a game”. The Beavers lost two on the road and will host UCLA on Wednesday night.
Utah: travels to face Washington State on Thursday.
