Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict suspended by National Football League for hit on Steelers’ Antonio Brown
Porter helped incite a 15-yard penalty from Bengals corner Adam Jones during the waning seconds of Saturday’s Wild Card fiasco which aided the Steelers in their attempt to boot a game-winning field goal.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger plans to play Sunday at Denver but the Pittsburgh Steelers have little idea what to expect from their offensive stars when they take on the Broncos in the divisional playoffs.
In an appearance on “Inside NFL”, Jones said he would only apologize to Brown if he doesn’t play on Saturday.
Bengals player Pacman Jones told the media he didn’t believe Brown was actually hurt and was faking the injury.
Brown, who was put in concussion protocol after a hit to the helmet by Burfict following an incomplete pass, is said to be fine and should be able to play.
The NFL made it clear the suspension was for Burfict’s “body of work” and not just the hit on the Brown.
Burfict was fined almost $70,000 for three separate incidents when the Steelers and Bengals met in December, accounting for about half of the almost $140,000 in fines levied to players on both teams.
Burfict has been suspended for the first three games of the 2016 National Football League regular season for his dirty, unsportsman-like conduct vs. Pittsburgh.
Jones was penalized after he got into an altercation with Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter, who had come onto the field at the same time Brown was being tended to by medical staff.
“It didn’t go over the edge”, Lewis said. The 27-year-old has been a durable player to this point, suiting up a full 16 game slate the past three seasons. Roethlisberger went back in and drove the Steelers to midfield, where the Bengals had the Steelers stopped before the penalties on Burfict and Jones. Despite his ability to get back on the field then, and despite a report from Monday suggesting that he’s certain to play, Roethlisberger indicated he remains uncertain of just what this weekend will bring. Tomlin said Tuesday that Williams still “on the outside looking in”.
